The Basics of Web Developement

Web developement is more like making a furniture. You have to plan the structure first, choose the design , make the blueprint and finally construct it. In this section i will teach you everything that you need to do in an easy step by step guide before you actually start building your final website.

1.Decide your topic.

The first step in building your website is to choose a topic. The web contains all that you need making it the biggest multimedia encyclopedia in the world. You should choose a topic of your interest. While choosing a topic make sure you know enough about it. Remember that your website must have enough quality content to attract visitors. Also you need to update your content on a regular or weekly basis to make sure that your visitors return to our website more often. A website which is static in its content will once decease in traffic flow as time progresses. No one would want to return your website until you give them something new at frequent intervals. So make sure that you update your site. Choosing the right topic is important. Decide what interests you the most, what is your passion or what you like or know that you want to share. This will give you the boost and enthusiasm to make your website and get yourself committed to it. Please do not copy articles or ideas from other website directly as this will never make your website successful and you are likely to face legal copyright issues. QUALITY ORIGINAL CONTENT is what matters the most. One thing you can certainly do is research. For Example, say you are building a gaming website, so you can search for other gaming website and see how these websites are presented how do they update them, what topics are on the front page, and you can even enhance your knowledge. But copy paste of articles is simply not done.

2. Domain Registration and Web Hosting.

After you are done making enough content for your website its time to think of a catchy name fro your website. However while choosing the name make sure that the same name is available in domain registration. Say you want to give your website name flowers.com but the site already exists so what do you do? There are two possibilities, either add a prefix or suffix to your domain name and check for availability. Else you can think of a completely different website name and search it. the best practice however is FIRST SEARCH YOUR DOMAIN NAME AND THEN DECIDE YOUR WEBSITE NAME. It is always the best when your domain name and your company name of your website are the same. Say you have a fishing website called 'fisherstu' so the best part would be if you can get a domain name called www.fisherstu.com. The next possibility is adding words like the before the name of your company. Also it is important to remember that websites have a large number of extensions like .com,.net,.in,.uk etc. So make sure that you are searching for availability in the right extension. Generally we want .com or .net but if you plan to make a country specific website then .uk .us .in might be an option for you. Sometimes people also purchase multiple domain extensions with the same brand to protect their brand name in the internet.
After domain registration comes web hosting. Web hosting is basically choosing a plan or deciding the servers that will show your website in the world wide web. There are several plans on internet offered by other companies called web hosting companies. But you can even create your own web hosting by buying your own web server and domain. Generally people rely on these companies as they are stedy and constant. If you want to host yourself then you have to keep your computer on for 24*7. For starter website it is advised to choose the basic plan unless you expect to get high traffic. For bigger companies who gets over 200k traffic or so per day you can opt for dedicated servers although they are costly.
Note: Free websites can be created using blogger.com , googlesites.com or www.weebly.com . These are the most popular site builders online but they give you a free subdomain like www.example.blogspot.com or www.example.weebly.com . If you want a proper domain then it is not for free but you have to pay very little to get it.

Some domain registration links are.

2) www.networksolutions.com

Some web hosting sites are.

1) bluehost.com

2)bigrock.com

3)networksolutions.com

3. Planning Your Website.

The next step is planning how exactly your website will look. For this i recommend you get a white notebook and a pencil or pen. First make the base layout of how you would like the home page to be. The home page or the index page is the page where visitors land when they first  go to your website. So make sure it has enough content or links to other pages and it is attractive. Remember though that your website can either have a very fancy theme or a simple theme. Sketch the other pages and where you want to place your content. Make sure that the most relevent or important contents should be placed where users can find out easily. Basically all websites are divided into three parts:
1)The Header
2)The Body
3) Footer

The header contains the main banner for your website so people instantly recognize your site. It can be a simple image or a flash moving banner.
The body contains all your content for your website. The most important part of the body is the navigation menu.
The footer contains the sitemap i.e. links to all parts of the website copyright statements etc.
